Meet The Writer

As a professional writer for nearly 30 years, Jerry Davich has interviewed thousands of people whose lives are filled with profound joys, incredible achievements, and remarkable accomplishments. Their obituary – their written legacy – should reflect this, regardless of age, race, earned income, occupation, or manner of death.

Jerry has interviewed too many surviving loved ones who failed to capture someone’s legacy in a traditional obituary, especially when they’re under the duress of shock or sadness while preparing a loved one’s “final arrangements.”

Jerry has written thousands of stories, columns, and magazine articles. He also has authored four books, including “Connections: EveryONE Happens for a Reason.” Along the way, Jerry has won more than 50 state or national awards from various journalism organizations while now writing for Chicago Tribune Media.

Jerry is the father of two adult children, the dad to two stepchildren, and “Pops” to his toddler grandson Landon. He lives in the Chicago metro area with the love of his life, Karen, an integral member of the Kindred Connections team.

Kindred Connections Testimonials

Obituaries shouldn’t only tell us how someone died, but how they lived. Their passions, their quirks, their triumphs, their legacies. Their existence is meaningful to others even after they’re gone.

Mary Ann

"Just wanted to thank you for the awesome work you did on the slideshow for Buck. Everybody I shared it with was impressed and moved.”

Barbara W.

"What a beautiful eulogy written with your words and his deeds.”

Trent McCain

"Thank you so very much! You definitely have a knack. I will definitely recommend your business to others in need.”

Mona H. Moede

Your style of writing pushes the reader to keep reading and you vividly took my illustrious career and made it a story of deep human interest. You accented and captured my humanity, challenges, struggles, and many successes without negating the relevant highlights I had identified in my original document.

Your storytelling skills broadly help people in mourning for their loved ones who, during stress and sadness, experience difficulty in creating quality historical information. I remain grateful and appreciative of your talent.

Fernando L.

Thank you Jerry. You are incredible for doing this in such a short time.
